Description
AstraZeneca, in collaboration with Uppsala University, is seeking an Industrial PhD Student in Molecular Pharmaceutics for a drug delivery project in Gothenburg, Sweden. The project focuses on targeted colonic delivery for local treatment of gastrointestinal diseases. This is a unique opportunity to work on precision treatments for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and develop oral drug delivery systems.
Tasks
- Work on an industrial PhD project split between Uppsala University and AstraZeneca, Gothenburg.
- Develop a drug delivery system targeting inflamed disease sites in the colon.
- Functionalize drug-loaded nanoparticles with ligands for molecular targets.
- Use click chemistry-based bioconjugation to control nanoparticle diffusion through the colonic mucus barrier.
- Study transport of targeted nanoparticles in the colon using in vitro models.
- Assess therapeutic efficacy in preclinical disease models of ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease.
Qualification:
- Master of Science in Pharmaceutics, Drug Discovery and Development, Chemical/Biochemical Engineering, Biomedicine, Biotechnology, or a relevant field.
- Good communication skills in oral and written English.
- Previous laboratory experience, industrial exposure, and collaboration skills are meritorious.
