The University of Ferrara, Department of Engineering, invites applications for a three-year PhD position as part of the “SOUNDkids” project funded by the Head-Genuit Foundation. This exciting opportunity involves research in the emerging field of indoor soundscape and classroom acoustics, aiming to enhance the acoustic design of educational spaces for young students.
The PhD candidate will engage in innovative research to develop a novel approach to classroom acoustics, focusing on optimizing the sound environment to promote a positive school climate. Key objectives include conducting a scoping review on the soundscape of learning environments, defining children’s perceptual dimensions, developing statistical models for prediction tools, and validating the new approach in real-world case studies.
Benefits
The Research Doctorate program at UniFe spans three years, starting on November 1st, 2024. The annual gross stipend for the scholarship is €16,243.00, covering National Insurance Contributions (INPS). Additionally, a 50% increase in the scholarship amount is applicable for any period spent abroad, up to 12 months. The PhD student is guaranteed research funding, amounting to 10% of the total scholarship.
Requirements
Ideal candidates should hold a master’s degree in engineering, architecture, physics, or related scientific disciplines. Background knowledge in architectural and/or environmental acoustics is preferred. While familiarity with psychoacoustics and statistics is advantageous, it is not mandatory for this position.
