Description
The RSTMH Early Career Grants Programme provides grants every year to those early in their career, from anywhere in the world, to carry out their first piece of research into tropical medicine or global health.
Our grants programme has been established for more than 40 years and has seen significant growth. Since 2017 we have given out more than 800 awards across 66 countries.
Applications open: 22 January 2024 at 5pm (GMT)
Applications close: 22 April 2024 at 12pm (BST)
Who are the grants for: The RSTMH Early Career Grants are aimed at individuals who have not received a research grant of £5,000 or more in their own name before, who are able to develop and deliver their first research project
Where you are based: Applications are welcomed from researchers from anywhere in the world
Grant amount: The maximum RSTMH Early Career Grant award is £5,000 (including any taxes on relevant purchases)
Duration of grant project: Project should take up to one year to be completed and should start within 3 months of receiving funding
Topic and scope: The projects can be on any topic related to tropical medicine and global health, from across the research spectrum for example: lab, translation, implementation, and policy
How many grants are available: This year we have at least 230 grants available
Exclusive funding for RSTMH members

Partners
This year we have secured funding for the programme from National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR), The International Alliance for the Control of Scabies (IACS), and The Journal of Comparative Pathology Educational Trust (JCPET). This means we will be able to fund at least 230 awards, with 4 of those awards being exclusively for RSTMH members.
NIHR are funding at least 225 awardees who are based in and carrying out projects in LMIC’s, and whose projects do not include laboratory-based work.
IACS are funding 2 awards, for projects focused on scabies based anywhere in the world.
JCPET are funding 1 award for a project focused on One Health, based anywhere in the world.
