The Division of Geography and Tourism at KU Leuven and VITO seek 2 PhD researchers for innovative research on Flemish land systems. The project aims to enhance ‘RuimteModel Vlaanderen’ by simulating migration, demographics, socio-economics, and mobility behaviors. Candidates must hold a Master’s degree in related disciplines, have a strong interest in spatial modeling and sustainable development, and proficiency in English. Two funded full-time scholarships for four years are available.
Eligibility
- Hold a Master’s degree in geography, sustainable development, spatial planning, or a related discipline
- Strong interest in spatial modeling, land systems, human mobility, and sustainable development
- Proficiency in English; knowledge of Dutch is a plus
- Strong foundation in quantitative (spatial) methodology
- Experience with GIS and programming languages (Python or R)
- Ability to effectively communicate complex issues
- Ambitious, well-organized, team-oriented, with excellent communication skills
