Planning to study abroad? Then you already know that tuition fees and cost of living add up to a large budget for your education. Fortunately, scholarships provide the essential financial support that so many students need. But you must know the right way to apply.
Where to get scholarships
The official websites of the university you want to apply to are the first place to search for a scholarship. If there’s nothing on the website, you can reach out to them to see if they can help.
The next place is to look for financial support elsewhere (full or half scholarship). There are a number of websites to help you with that. And at CareerEdu, we make sure to source for up-to-date scholarships to help students who might need them. Check out some of our scholarships on our website.
How to apply for a scholarship abroad
Once you’ve found a scholarship you want to apply for, start preparing your documents. A typical application process looks like this:
Register for the scholarship, usually by completing an application form online.
Check your email for the confirmation email.
Write a personal statement or essay. Be thorough and original to express why you should be granted the scholarship. There are a lot of students applying so yours must stand out if you will get the scholarship.
Get official proof of your academic (transcripts, certificate of English proficiency), athletic, or artistic achievements. Or get official proof of your low income or nationality (for region-based scholarships).
Proofread all documents for errors and send them to the scholarship provider.
Submit the acceptance letter from the university (or an official document from the university proving you’ve been accepted). You won’t receive the scholarship without confirming that you will actually begin studies.
Wait for the results. If selected, congratulations! The university or college usually receives the money directly to cover your tuition (or a part of it).
