A PhD fellowship is available in the Computational Biology and Bioinformatics research group at the Center for non-coding RNA in Technology and Health, University of Copenhagen. The project, part of the PIG-PARADIGM consortium, aims to investigate host-pathogen interactions in the pig’s intestine to address the challenge of anti-microbial resistance (AMR) in pig production. The research involves exploring molecular interactions between host and microbes, identifying resilient pigs, and contributing to strategies reducing antibiotic use. Collaboration with Prof Merete Fredholm and Prof Mani Arumagam enriches the interdisciplinary approach.

The PhD project explores and establishes molecular interactions between host and microbes in different sections of the pig’s intestine. Emphasis is on identifying interactions in pigs with and without diarrhea, offering insights into resilience against pathogens. Collaboration with Prof Merete Fredholm and Prof Mani Arumagam enhances the project’s depth and breadth.

Eligibility

Applicants must have a master’s degree related to the project’s subject area, such as Bioinformatics, Systems Biology, Computer Science, or similar. Technical qualifications include knowledge of network biology, machine and deep learning algorithms, Python, C/C++, shell scripting, Unix/Linux, and relevant biological understanding. Familiarity with RNA structures and interactions is advantageous.
