Location: Lagos

Job Purpose

  • Develop and implement poultry health management protocols to maintain optimal flock health and welfare
  • Develop and implement biosecurity protocols to prevent the introduction and spread of diseases within the facility.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine medical care, including vaccinations, deworming, and administering medications.
  • Respond to emergencies and provide medical attention to sick or injured birds.
  • Conduct regular health checks and monitor the flock to identify and prevent potential health issues.
  • Conduct diagnostic tests and laboratory analyses to identify and treat illnesses and diseases.
  • Collaborate with external veterinarians to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and to develop treatment plans.
  • Develop and implement biosecurity protocols to prevent disease outbreaks.
  • Maintain accurate records of treatments, medications, and vaccinations.
  • Conduct training sessions for farm staff to promote bird health and welfare.
  • Coordinate with other departments to maintain the health and welfare of the flock.
  • Conduct research and keep up-to-date with the latest developments in poultry health management biosecurity protocols to prevent the introduction and spread of diseases within the facility.

Requirements
Education:

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an accredited veterinary school.
  • Valid license to practice veterinary medicine in the relevant jurisdiction.

Experience:

  • 2 – 5 years of experience in poultry veterinary medicine, preferably in a commercial poultry farm setting.
  • Proven track record of managing poultry health and disease control programs.
  • Experience in diagnosing and treating common poultry diseases, injuries, and health issues.
  • Knowledge of biosecurity protocols and best practices for disease prevention and control in poultry farms.
  • Familiarity with vaccination programs, medication administration, and treatment protocols for poultry species.
  • Experience in conducting post-mortem examinations and interpreting laboratory test results.
  • Understanding of poultry nutrition, housing requirements, and environmental management practices.
  • Experience in managing and training farm staff on poultry health and biosecurity protocols.
  • Strong record-keeping and documentation skills, with the ability to maintain accurate health records and reports.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations, guidelines, and standards governing animal health and welfare in poultry farming.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with farm managers, veterinarians, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and make sound decisions under pressure in a fast-paced farm environment.
