I grew up in a village in the suburb of Abia state, I was raised by my grandmother who was the only parent I grew up to know, the story was that my parents were involved in a ghastly motor accident when I was 5 years old and amongst the 18 people onboard, I was the only survivor.
I started attending and following my grandmother to the farm even as a primary school student.
I was resilient in making something good out of my life and making enough money to take care of the only parent I had,(my grandmother).
I got into secondary school and was one of the top 5 in the class. My mother struggled to sponsor me through secondary school and a few days into writing my WAEC exam, tragedy struck and I lost her.
I cried uncontrollably and after some time, I became even more determined to see myself succeed against all odds. The pain of my grandmother’s death drew me closer to purpose, I was bent on making it in life.
That was how I wanted to keep this woman’s memory alive, I wanted her to be proud of me even in death.
When it was time to get a jamb form, I could not enroll because I had barely enough money to feed myself. I decided to find a meager-paying job and one day, I saw an advert where a cleaner was needed at a nearby computer center. I strolled into the place, asked to see the owner of the place, and expressed my interest in working with and for the venture.
I was hired and was very diligent with my work.
In the midst of these, I had started saving up to get a jamb form, my place of work was a training center and when I was not working, I’d keep tabs on what they did whilst looking at the modules being taught and, that was how my love for programming started.
I would ask one of the tutors who was kind enough to put me through and he bought me a coding book as my birthday gift.
I’d get home in the evening and submerge myself in this book and practice with the computer at my place of work.
On one of those days, my boss came in but I didn’t notice him because I was so engrossed in practicing the codes I had learned the previous day.
My boss was surprised, he called me into his office and advised me on the tech path. He asked me to join the students if I wanted.
Fast forward to 5 years after, I became a programmer and web developer, I became good in my craft and made so much money that I went back to the village, and built my grandmother’s house where she was buried.
Just recently, I was recommended to a board of AI engineers and after a rigorous interview exercise, I was offered the job. Accepting the job meant that I was accepting an offer to be sponsored to the United States of America and in less than 5 months, I relocated to the US.
Its been a year since I got to the US and I can say tech changed my life, IT CAN CHANGE YOURS TOO.
Remember, I had just my WAEC certificate, I don’t have a university degree either and I am here living the life I’ve always envisioned for myself.
Don’t let your background be a limiting factor to how far you can go in life.
Also, if you’re looking to scale your life, then jumpstart a career in tech, all thanks to Careeredu, you can learn a course in tech with as little as 50,000 which is the least amount you can get anywhere, and I advise you to make good use of that opportunity.
Thank you
