Uppsala University’s Department of Chemistry invites applications for a PhD student position in Chemistry under the supervision of Professor Daniel Globisch. The successful candidate will join the Globisch laboratory, an international and multidisciplinary research group focusing on the development of new Chemical Biology methodologies to advance metabolomics-based research. This exciting project offers an opportunity to delve into interdisciplinary research at the interface of Chemistry and Biology, investigating neurological diseases and developing innovative chemical biology methodologies.
The selected candidate will engage in research focusing on the design and chemical synthesis of chemoselective probes within the Globisch laboratory. This interdisciplinary project involves a combination of chemical synthesis, mass spectrometric analysis of metabolites in biological samples, and investigation of microbiome metabolism. The PhD student will contribute to ongoing research projects, participate in third-cycle courses, and may undertake teaching and other departmental duties.
Qualification:
- Applicants should hold a basic higher education equivalent to at least 240 ECTS credits, including at least 60 ECTS credits at Master’s level, or possess substantially equivalent knowledge.
- Special eligibility for doctoral studies in chemistry requires the completion of courses totaling at least 90 higher education credits, with at least 40 credits at the advanced level (second cycle).
- Proficiency in English, both spoken and written, is essential.
- Candidates with a master of science or engineering degree in chemistry or related fields are preferred.
- Laboratory experience in (Bio)organic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, and/or Chemical Biology is desirable, with documented experience in at least two of the following areas: Organic Chemistry, Chemical Biology, Metabolomics, and mass spectrometric analysis of biological samples.
- Scores from IELTS or TOEFL are desirable but not mandatory at the time of applying.
