Doctoral Degree Position in Chirality & Soft Matter, University of Bordeaux, France

Expires on: 03/31/2024

Description

The Paul Pascal Research Center, affiliated with the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) and the University of Bordeaux, is offering an open PhD position starting in September 2023. The research project focuses on studying the chirality transfer from particle scale to mesoscale through self-assembly of filamentous viruses into various chiral supramolecular morphologies.

The selected candidate will conduct experiments to investigate the formation of helical superstructures using filamentous fd viruses as chiral building blocks. The project aims to understand the mechanisms of chirality transfer at the mesoscopic scale and the influence of geometric confinement on resulting helical superstructures. The research will involve interdisciplinary approaches combining soft matter physics, physico-chemistry, and biological object manipulation.

Qualification:

  •  Candidates should possess or expect to attain a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline such as Physical Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics, or Nanoscience.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English are required.
  •  The PhD project involves experimental work with opportunities for physics modeling, thus candidates with an interdisciplinary background are preferred.

Documents

  • Interested candidates should submit their applications to Prof. Eric Grelet via email at eric.grelet@crpp.cnrs.fr.
  • Applications must include a CV, contact information for two referees, and a brief statement of interest for the specific PhD research project.
