We are looking for a PhD candidate (4 years full-time) to develop measures of energy efficiency and productivity that contribute to an energy extensification of European agriculture. The position is embedded in the Horizon Europe project “AnalysinG of fossil-ENergy dependence in agriculture to increase RESilience against input price fluctuations”. In this project, we seek to develop efficiency and productivity measures that enable a reduction of the use of energy and energy-intensive inputs in European agriculture. The prospective PhD candidate will be part of a team of agricultural economists at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in Uppsala and INRAE in Paris.

Qualifications 

The ideal candidate is expected to:

  • Hold a MSc degree in economics, agricultural economics, environmental economics, business economics, or a related field.
  • Have an interest in developing new methods to analyse the role of energy and energy-intensive inputs in European agricultural production.
  • Bring a solid foundation in quantitative empirical analysis such as econometrics and mathematical programming with practical experience in this area (e.g. within the master thesis).
  • Have excellent English language skills at the C1 level, both in writing and speaking. We might ask to submit an internationally recognized Certificate of Proficiency in the English Language. More information can be found here.
