  • Description:Description Join the Mehmani Research Group and explore the fundamental physics of flow and deformation in porous media. This fully funded PhD position is dedicated to understanding microscale processes and their impact on macroscale behaviors. Research areas encompass reactive transport modeling, machine learning, multiscale algorithms, and advanced imaging techniques for geomaterials. The research group’s focus extends to applications in energy and environmental fields, including subsurface technologies and sustainable energy solutions.Eligibility:We are seeking candidates with a strong background in computational fluid and/or solid mechanics, applied mathematics, computer programming, machine learning, or image analysis. While a Master’s degree is advantageous, it is not a mandatory requirement. The selected student will work on developing innovative algorithms, methods, and workflows for modeling and characterizing geologic porous media, particularly those with extreme heterogeneity, for applications related to geologic carbon storage. Collaboration with interdisciplinary researchers, access to cutting-edge equipment, and supercomputing facilities will be provided.Required Documents:Interested candidates should contact Yashar Mehmani via email at y2m5192@psu.edu to discuss the research project. Please include the following attachments in your email:
    • Unofficial transcripts
    • Curriculum vitae (CV)
    • Names and contact information of three references
    • A brief personal statement describing your motivation for joining our group and how your background aligns with the position
Applicants must meet the minimum admission requirements set by The Graduate School and the EME department at Pennsylvania State University. How to Apply: To apply for this exciting research opportunity, reach out to Yashar Mehmani via email at y2m5192@psu.edu to initiate discussions about the research project. Ensure that you include the required documents mentioned above in your email. Don’t miss this chance to become a part of groundbreaking research in porous media physics.
