It is no longer news that Canada is a choice destination for international students, and this is due to the high educational standard obtained in Canada.
More than 1,500 educational institutions in Canada provide courses to international students. Many programs include internships or job placements as a part of their curriculum to give overseas students practical experience, which ultimately gives them hands-on experience with professional realities.
On the other hand, there’s a clear path to getting a permanent residence permit in Canada, as well as the multicultural diversity that Canada provides. Last year, it was sometimes announced by Immigration Minister Sean Fraser that there was a temporary measure aimed at alleviating Canada’s historic labor shortages.
The immigration minister, Fraser, says that this measure is put in place to fix the problem of labor shortages in Canada and also to give international students more opportunities to work for more hours as they study.
The effect of this decision is that over 500,000 international students already in Canada will be able to work potentially for more hours.
Here are 5 things you need to know about this development as you prepare for your Canada journey.
1. You have more time to work and earn more.
International students studying in Canada who have off-campus employment authorization on their study permit are permitted to work more than 20 hours per week off-campus while classes are in session from November 15, 2022, to December 31, 2023.
2. This is applicable to incoming international students.
International students who have already applied for a study permit today are subject to this temporary regulation. If their application is accepted by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada, they will also be allowed to take advantage of this program.
3. You’re able to support yourself better.
This measure enables international students to support themselves financially while also attempting to keep them focused on finishing their studies rather than finding employment in Canada.
4. It gives you hands-on work experience.
According to research foreign students who eventually become permanent residents have a tendency to integrate more rapidly into the Canadian labor market due to things like their Canadian job and study experience.
5. The measure is temporary.
The measure and ban lifting by the Department of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is a temporary lifting that is expected to run from November 15, 2022, until December 31, 2023. The IRCC further stated that international students who are in Canada and have off-campus work authorization on their study permit will not be constrained by the 20-hour per week rule from acknowledging that employers are facing “unprecedented challenges in finding and retaining the workers.”
