PhD Assistantship Opportunity in Agricultural Extension or Sociology at Pennsylvania State University, United States: Ph.D. Assistantship Opportunity (Fall 2024) in Education, Development, and Community Engagement Program, The Department of Agricultural Economics, Sociology, and Education at Pennsylvania State University is offering a fully-funded Ph.D. assistantship in our Education, Development, and Community Engagement Graduate Program with a specific focus on Program Development and Evaluation or Extension Education starting Fall 2024! The funding is available through a National Science Foundation (NSF) grant project and support from the department.

The Department of Agricultural Economics, Sociology, and Education (AESE) conducts pioneering research targeting new ways to build resilient communities. Our hard-earned reputation for excellence attracts world-class faculty, staff, and students devoted to putting social science to work in Pennsylvania and around the world. The NSF-funded project’s social science portion focuses on: • Evaluating factors influencing Best Management Practices (BMP) implementation by farmers. • You’ll gain experience in program development & evaluation, extension education, and social science research.

Responsibilities:

  •  Literature review
  • Survey & interview protocol design
  • Data collection (interviews, surveys)
  • Reporting results (conferences, publications)
  • Assisting with undergraduate teaching (later in the program)

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field (Ag Extension, Social Sciences, etc.)
  •  Experience with social science research methods (e.g., interviews, surveys, data analysis)
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and independent work skills
  •  Valid driver’s license (or willingness to obtain one)
