The Embedded Sensing Group (ESG) at the Institute of Computer Science Vorarlberg (ICV-HSG), University of St. Gallen (HSG), is offering a fully-funded PhD scholarship opportunity for a Research Associate in Embedded Sensing Systems. The successful candidate will delve into cutting-edge research in embedded sensors and constrained sensor networks, bridging scientific discoveries with industry-specific applications.

The selected candidate will be involved in designing and conducting research within the field of embedded sensors and constrained sensor networks. They will work on linking scientific discoveries with practical applications in industries, support knowledge transfer with industry partners, and engage in teaching activities at HSG, including supervising master’s and bachelor’s theses. Collaborative efforts in interdisciplinary projects, organizing workshops, seminars, and conferences, as well as participation in grant writing activities, are also part of the role. The position offers a fully-funded PhD opportunity at the ICV-HSG campus in Dornbirn, Austria, along with competitive compensation aligned with Austrian universities and support for commuting between Dornbirn and St. Gallen campuses.

Requirements 

  • Hold a university-level master’s degree in computer science or electrical engineering.
  • Strong proficiency in English (knowledge of German is desirable).
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++ and Python.
  • Basic understanding of Linux-based and Real-time Operating Systems (RTOS).
  • Familiarity with networking protocols, preferably with experience in protocols for constrained networks.
