PhD Scholarship in Marine Ecosystem, Aarhus University, Denmark

Expires on: 02/01/2024

Description

Applicants are invited for a PhD Scholarship in Marine Ecosystem Mmodelling in Denmark, within the Ecoscience programme. The position is available from 1 April 2024 or later. You can submit your application via the link under ‘how to apply’. Title:Marine ecosystem modelling of mussel reef restoration and associated ecosystem services

Research area and project description: Bivalve reefs are important biogenic habitats because they provide important ecosystem services such as water clarity, nutrient regulation, depositional storage, coastal protection, and high biodiversity by providing natural refuge, nursery- and feeding grounds for many other species. Bivalve reefs are protected by the Habitat Directive, but are under pressure from climate change (pH, hypoxia) and human-driven stressors such as eutrophication, pollution, and fishing. Ecological restoration of mussel reefs is still a relatively recent activity in Denmark and elsewhere.

Requirements: Applicants must have a relevant Master’s degree (120 ECTS) or at least one year of a Master’s degree in biology, environmental science, mathematics, geography, modeling, or related discipline. Experience with analysing tools such as R, MatLab, Python, etc. and basic understanding of mechanistic modelling is an advantage.
